Facing Forced Displacement: Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Grigoropoulous Iraklis1.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the experience of displacement of the participating refugee children and their ways of coping based on their personal narratives and stories. Fifteen refugee children were interviewed about their experiences of forced displacement in Greece. Qualitative analysis was used based on the principles of interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Three overarching themes emerged from the data: (a) losses and pains, (b) pressure from multiple sources and (c) life's lessons from stressful experiences. The themes represent children's stress experiences, whereas the latter reflects the ways in which children managed to cope. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.
