Abstract
Increased contamination by facultative pathogens such as coliforms and related gram-negative bacteria and Candida albicans in hospital areas of risk endangers the benefits of medical care and causes great concern. The patient himself is the predominant source of nosocomial infections. Furthermore the medical staff, ward personnel, and contaminated environment must be incriminated. By proper decontamination of certain groups of high-risk patients and of their surroundings as well as by interrupting the microbial transfer at all levels, the present menace can be considerably reduced.Entities:
