Total sleep deprivation in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

R T Joffe1, R P Swinson.

Abstract

Total sleep deprivation was performed in 16 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Overall, no effect was observed on either mood or obsessive-compulsive behaviour. However, individual patients showed worsening, improvement or no change in obsessive-compulsive symptoms, independent of mood response, across the 3 days of sleep deprivation.
