FIGURE 1Guanosine (GUO) interaction with adenosine A1R-A2AR heteromer. Studies with heterologous adenosine receptors transfection showed GUO effects on ligand binding to receptors and intracellular signaling activation require both A1R and A2AR co-expression. Studies evaluating the neuroprotection promoted by GUO showed the protective is effect is abolished by A2AR agonist (CGS21680) and A1R antagonist (DPCPX). This pharmacological modulation also points to an interaction with the A1R-A2AR heteromer.
