Abstract
Twenty-four women who had undergone total salpingectomy due to ectopic pregnancy and who subsequently underwent a laparotomy for a second ectopic pregnancy in their opposite tube were treated by the author. Treatment consisted of linear salpingostomy (n = 20) and partial salpingectomy (n = 4). The intrauterine pregnancy rate after linear salpingostomy in women who attempted to conceive was 50%, and the incidence of a third ectopic pregnancy was 27.8%. These findings suggest that linear salpingostomy should be considered in the management of a second tubal pregnancy in women with a single tube. The high incidence of a third ectopic pregnancy, however, is concerning.Entities:
