[Value of the Miller-Abbott tube in the treatment of postoperative ileus].

This comparative study reports about therapeutic procedures in postoperative ileus. A group of 51 patients was treated with the Miller-Abbott-tube, placed by endoscopy, another comparable group, covering 41 patients, was attended by primary relaparotomy. The present study describes indications, technique, and problems of the Miller-Abbott procedure; success and failure in both groups are compared and discussed. The results of the Miller-Abbott-group enable us to reestimate conservative treatment of postoperative ileus.
