Abstract
Traumatic experiences, subsequent traumatic stress, and other trauma reactions are common among youth who experience emotional dysregulation. This article highlights key considerations for the delivery of care to emotionally dysregulated youth with histories of trauma. An initial, trauma informed assessment is critical to identify those youth with emotional dysregulation best served by evidence-based, trauma-focused treatments trauma-informed approaches to severely emotionally dysregulated youth, including youth in in-patient and residential settings, can improve emotional and behavioral outbursts while maintaining the safety the milieu. Finally, incorporating awareness of trauma is considered when prescribing psychopharmacologic interventions in severely emotionally dysregulated youth.Entities:
