Poorer Clinical Outcomes for Black Patients with AML: A Wake-Up Call for Better Data and Greater Understanding of Cancer Outcomes in All Ethnic Groups.

Paresh Vyas1.

Abstract

In this issue of Cancer Discovery, Bhatnagar and colleagues show that Black patients in the United States with acute myeloid leukemia have a shorter survival compared with white patients. This is an important paper as it addresses an under researched issue: the complex interaction of race, tumor genetics, socioeconomic factors, and access to treatment in defining treatment outcomes for a devastating cancer.See related article by Bhatnagar et al., p. 626. ©2021 American Association for Cancer Research.
