Instrumental perforations of the oesophagus.

K Moghissi1.

Abstract

Instrumental perforation of the oesophagus is a serious and potentially fatal complication of oesophagoscopic procedures. Thoracic perforations are more serious than cervical ones and those above an oesophageal stricture carry the highest mortality. Every effort should be made to diagnose early and to institute prompt and appropriate treatment.
