Abstract
OBJECTIVES: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare but limb- and life-threatening soft-tissue infection. It is among the most challenging surgical infections faced by surgeons, and is often accompanied by severe systemic toxicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive power of serum lactate and creatinine levels for mortality and morbidity in lower extremity NF.Entities:

Average values of serum lactate and creatinine levels
| Initial value at the time of presentation | Value following the completion of debridements | Initial value in 12 patients who required amputation | p | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Serum lactate (mmol/L) | 4.14±2.30 (Range: 1.2 to 12.7) | 2.10±0.61 (Range: 0.7 to 3.3) | 5.7 (Range: 5.1 to 8.7) | p<0.001 |
| Serum creatinine (mg/dL) | 1.76±0.39 (Range: 1.2 to 3.3) | 0.90±0.18 (Range: 0.7 to 1.3) | 1.92 (Range 1.4 to.3.3) | p<0.001 |
