Abstract
In this study, we compared the outcomes of laparoscopic gastrectomy and open gastrectomy in the elderly. Laparoscopic surgery was comparable to laparotomy in terms of the operation time and number of lymph node dissections and was significantly associated with less bleeding volume, duration of postoperative hospital stay, and a lower postoperative complication rate. Surgical invasion and overall risk scores were significantly low as assessed by the Estimation of Physiologic Ability and Surgical Stress(E-PASS)system. Based on these findings, laparoscopic gastrectomy can be considered to be superior to open gastrectomy as a surgical technique for the elderly.Entities:
