Carbohydrate metabolism in the critically ill patient. Implications for nutritional support.

R R Wolfe1.

Abstract

Alterations in the metabolism of glucose occur in the critically ill patient. Because glucose is a central controlling factor in the metabolic state of the critically ill, a complete knowledge of both the metabolic changes and their physiologic implications is important in the clinical management of these patients.
