Hypertension was defined by (1) systolic blood pressure ≥140 mm Hg, a diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mm Hg; (2) current treatment with antihypertensive drugs in participants with a self-reported history of diagnosed hypertension.
Severe hypertension was defined by systolic blood pressure ≥180 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure ≥120 mm Hg.
Awareness of hypertension was defined as the diagnosis of hypertension by a general physician or specialist.
Mean arterial pressure was calculated as [(2 × diastolic blood pressure) + systolic blood pressure]/3.
Pulse pressure was calculated by systolic blood pressure minus diastolic blood pressure.
