Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Clinical studies have produced conflicting results on the effects of metformin on gastrointestinal cancer development. We aimed to investigate the association between metformin use and stomach, colon, liver, and pancreatic cancer development among patients with newly diagnosed, drug-naïve type 2 diabetes.Entities:

CI, confidence interval; HR, hazard ratio.
The HRs were adjusted for age, sex, economic status, region of residency, and antidiabetic medications (sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, and meglitinide). The results of the univariate and multivariate analyses were significant, relative to the metformin nonuser group.
