Abstract
Fibronectin type III domain-containing 5 (FNDC5) is a widely distributed transmembrane glycoprotein and can be proteolytically cleaved as irisin that has multiple benefits on human diseases. In this review, we will focus on the synthesis, cleavage, distribution, elimination, single nucleotide polymorphisms, protein structure and glycosylated modification of FNDC5 or the cleaved form irisin, and also summarize a brief knowledge on their biological functions.Entities:
