Five rules for elective surgical procedures during the COVID-19 outbreak
1. Test asymptomatic patients before elective surgery with the knowledge of the sensitivity and availability of PCR at your institute
2. Do not use chest CT as a screening method except for certain types of surgery such as thoracic surgery
3. Do not rely on antibody tests for screening and implementation of infection control measures
4. Reduce the number of OR staff and entering and exiting the OR
5. Be sure that HCWs have the appropriate and optimum PPE during the operations
CT, computed tomography; OR, operating room; HCW, healthcare worker; PPE, personal protective equipment.
