MSF presence and project context

Health services are provided through 30 Ministry of Health (MoH) health structures: 21 health centres, 8 health posts and 1 referral hospital. In the hospital, MSF is neither involved in consultations nor in the prescription of antibiotics, the role of MSF is restricted to supervision and support. | The MoH operates one health centre in Kabo, which has been managed in partnership with MSF since 2006. It was reconstructed by MSF and extended to a secondary health facility providing maternity, paediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, HIV/AIDS, mental health, disease prevention, Expanded Program on Immunizations (EPI) and vaccinations. | Since 2007, MSF provides health services through its centres in Tawila, which have an in-patient department (IPD) and out-patient department (OPD) with two mobile clinics in Um Jalpakh and Tibido. Close to nomadic population migration routes and settlement points. | Toward the end of 2015, MSF launched a new project in the main paediatric hospital of the country (National Hospital of Simao Mendes) in the capital Bissau, which had a paediatric intensive care unit. The Simao Mendes Hospital serves as a referral hospital for the whole country and since April 2018 serves as the only MSF project in the country. |
