Abstract
This comprehensive review describes changes in body lipids, energy balance and metabolic pathways and endocrine regulations in the adipose tissues and liver of ewes and cows during pregnancy and lactation. These profiles are discussed in relation to litter size, food intake and diet composition. The interactions between teleophoretic mechanisms (that direct nutrients to the gravid uterus or to the mammary gland) and homeostatic mechanisms (that ensure maintenance of the mother organism) have been emphasized.Entities:
