Abstract
BACKGROUND: Surgical strategy for treating chronic type A dissection with small true lumen at the descending aorta has not been reported. In this retrospective study, we reviewed our experience of applying a two-stage procedure for treating chronic type A dissection with small true lumen at the descending aorta.Entities:

CTA, computed tomographic angiography; DA, descending aorta; AA, ascending aorta; FL, false lumen; TL, true lumen; TAR, thoracoabdominal replacement.
Figure 1CTA scan at different stages in one case. (A) Preoperative CTA shows a type A dissection with small true lumen at the descending aorta; (B) after the first-stage procedure, CTA shows that the stented elephant trunk was directly implanted into the false lumen at the descending thoracic aorta; (C) after the second-stage procedure of thoracic abdominal replacement, CTA shows satisfactory perfusion of the visceral arteries perfusion. CTA, computed tomographic angiography.
