Impact of Rule Changes on Fractures Due to Contact With the Ground or Another Person

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Count | % | Count | % |

| Home plate | 22 | 3.0 | 14 | 1.3 | .015 |
| Second base | 90 | 7.0 | 23 | 4.5 | .045 |
A runner approaching home plate may not deviate from his path in order to initiate contact with the catcher, and the catcher may not block home plate.
Statistically significant difference (P < .05).
A runner approaching second base must make a bona fide attempt to slide into the base and not change his path to attempt to slide into the fielder.
