Abstract
In summary, recent studies over the last ten years have concentrated on what the blood-brain barrier does rather than what it is. This focus has changed the concept of this important membrane from a passive, relatively immutable structure to a dynamic interface between blood and brain. Further understanding of the molecular cell physiology of the brain capillary endothelium will undoubtedly lead to new insights into both drug action at the BBB and drug delivery through this barrier.Mesh:
