Wear and loosening of the socket in the Charnley low-friction arthroplasty.

B M Wroblewski1.

Abstract

In the Charnley low-friction arthroplasty, wear of the HDP socket and the dimensional changes resulting from it are more important than the tissue response to wear debris. Study of wear and the related mechanical factors is likely to be more rewarding than the search for alternative methods of fixation.
