Abstract
A large plasmid in a virulent Shigella boydii 5 strain was transferred to plasmid-cured avirulent strains of S. boydii 5, S. boydii 12, S. sonnei form II, and Escherichia coli K12. The transconjugants acquired the ability to invade tissue culture cells, which indicated that the large plasmid in S. boydii is responsible for epithelial cell invasiveness.Entities:
