Figure 1The Ecologic Model showing the different levels (individual, interpersonal, workplace/institutional, state/local, and national) that influence behavior, the associated actions that may influence behavior, and the engagement in the COVID-19‒protective behaviors.
Note: Using this framework and the mediators/actions associated with each level, it is possible to develop comprehensive strategies that work through mediators at several levels. When national, state, and local policies are aligned with organizational goals in a conducive family/social environment and the individual is motivated and receptive to behavioral change messages, COVID-19‒protective behavior will be maximized.
