Abstract
Systemic conditions are associated with higher rates of hand and upper extremity infections, leading to more severe and atypical presentations. Understanding the unique problems associated with some of the most common systemic conditions, including human immunodeficiency virus, diabetes mellitus, and rheumatoid arthritis, can assist the hand surgeon in diagnosing and treating infection in these patients. This article reviews the most common presentation of hand infections for these patients and summarizes current approaches to the management of hand infections for patients with common immunocompromising conditions.Entities:
