Abstract
Traditionally, research aimed at the understanding of the sensory control of terrestrial mammalian locomotion has focused on cats as the animal model. But advances in molecular genetics and new methods to record movement in small animals have moved mice into the forefront of locomotor research. In this review article, I will first give an overview of what is known about sensory feedback control of locomotion, mainly emerged from experiments performed on cats. This overview will not be an exhaustive overview, but will rather aim to give a broad picture of what has been learned about the sensory control of locomotion using cats as the animal model. I will then give a brief summary of how the mouse is adding to these insights.Entities:
