Abstract
This study aimed to understand the factors influencing people's choice to follow a diet considered healthy, and if and how these factors may contribute progress toward a higher (unhealthy) degree of preoccupation with healthy eating: orthorexia nervosa. This was achieved through mixed methods (interviews, n = 12; questionnaire, n = 82). The target group was young females in the Netherlands. Several biological, psychological, and social factors contribute to people's healthy eating. Having concerns about chronic conditions were found to be significantly associated with a higher degree of preoccupation with healthy eating, resulting implicated in the possible onset of orthorexia nervosa.Entities:
