Abstract
An extensive review has been conducted into the various surgical causes of female infertility in a Teaching Hospital in Nigeria. The results obtained by surgical management of the cases were analysed. The commonest cause of female infertility in Nigeria remains blockage of the Fallopian Tubes. Other common causes are uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts, especially polycystic ovarian cysts. Two hundred and seventy-four patients were seen, and out of this number, one hundred and fifty patients were operated. Surgical management of these patients showed that myomectomy produced good results, while macrosurgical tubal surgery gave fair results. Various factors influencing the success rate have been analysed and discussed. Macrosurgical techniques can be expected to produce fairly good results if the surgeon is experienced, and adequate attention paid to haemostasis.Entities:
