Daniella Karassawa Zanoni1, Snehal G Patel2.

Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The objective of this article is to critically review the rationale for the changes in the staging of the oral cavity cancers. RECENT
FINDINGS: After reviewing many recent studies about oral cancer and analyzing multi-institutional data for outcomes, the staging system was updated to include new knowledge of the disease and its biological behavior.
SUMMARY: This article reviews the changes in the staging of oral cavity cancers published in the 8th edition of the AJCC/UICC TNM cancer staging manual and discusses future directions.
