Abstract
Ultrasound-based elastography has rapidly replaced the need for liver biopsy in most patients with chronic liver disease in recent years. The technique is now widely supported by many manufacturers. This review will introduce various current ultrasound-based elastography techniques, review the physics and scanning techniques, discuss potential cofounding factors as well as summarising the evidence for its use in staging liver fibrosis using shear-wave elastography among different disease aetiologies. Future challenges and directions will be also be discussed.Entities:
