Abstract
This article examines policies and programs associated with geriatric inmates. The increasing number of inmates over the age of 50 has raised questions on how corrections departments will address this population's needs. To determine how states are addressing the needs of elderly individuals in prison and through geriatric release, the author conducted a literature review. Results indicate great variety in how states address the needs of the elderly. There is opportunity for improvement to serve the elderly inmate population. Keywords: elderly; geriatric; inmates; prisoners
