Abstract
We have previously detected progesterone, dehydroepiandrosterone, androstenedione, testosterone and estrone in rat retina. The present experiments show that the presence of these steroids in the retina may not be due to local biosynthesis. On the other hand, they demonstrate considerable 5 alpha-reductase and 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activities in the rat retina. The significance of these activities in the retina is discussed.Entities:
