Drug interactions in the older patient.

D A Hussar1.

Abstract

Elderly patients face an increased risk of drug interactions because of physiologic changes associated with age and because of the multiple-drug regimens that are likely to be prescribed for these patients. Physicians should be familiar with the consequences, contributing factors, mechanisms (pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic), and methods of reducing the risk of drug interactions.
