To the Editor:We read with great interest the article by Spiceland et al, recently published in VideoGIE, demonstrating combined anterograde-retrograde endoscopic esophageal recanalization of a completely obstructed esophagus by use of the FNA needle technique. We commend the authors on a well-done video describing this technique. Here at Penn State Health, we have found this technique to be an efficient and safe method for esophageal recanalization, and we reported on this technique in the literature in 2006 and 2011., We would like to point out that although we agree with the authors’ use of fluoroscopy to ensure endoscope alignment, we would add that it is crucial to the safety of the procedure that fluoroscopy is done in both the anteroposterior and the lateral views.
