Abstract
The current research intended to study the state of mental health among the community of transgender individuals in Pakistan. The level of psychological resilience and self-esteem was explored in addition to finding the differences regarding socio-demographic factors. A sample of 100 transgender individuals was selected through snowball sampling. Data was gathered through self-respondent questionnaire and interviews. Results showed that 29% of the sample have low level of psychological resilience while 74% presented low to moderate level of self-esteem. A significant positive correlation was found between psychological resilience and self-esteem (r = .65, p < .01). Pertaining to socio-demographic factors, education has a significant positive correlation with resilience (r = .32, p < .05) and self esteem (r = .38, p < .01). Moreover, transgender individuals residing with their gurus have a significantly higher level of resilience (p < .05) and self-esteem (p < .05) as compared to living alone or with friends.Keywords: Mental health; Psychological resilience; Self-esteem; Transgender individuals
