Abstract
PURPOSE: Sivelestat, a neutrophil elastase inhibitor, attenuates global ischemia-induced myocardial damage and coronary endothelial dysfunction. Here, we investigated whether sivelestat exerts the cardioprotective effects against cardioplegic arrest in rat hearts.Entities:

Control, additional 10-min perfusion with KHB (treatment only with St. Thomas’ Hospital cardioplegic solution No. 2); Siv-R, infusion with 19 μmol/L sivelestat-dissolved KHB for the first 10 min of reperfusion; Siv-M, infusion with 19 μmol/L sivelestat-dissolved KHB for 10 min before ischemia and for the first 10 min of reperfusion. KHB: Krebs–Henseleit bicarbonate buffer; LVDP: left ventricular developed pressure; LVEDP: left ventricular end diastolic pressure
