Abstract
OBJECTIVES: In recent years, transboundary air pollution from mainland East Asia has led to growing concerns about air pollution in Japan. Air pollution is reportedly associated with the exacerbation of respiratory diseases. In this study, we assessed the effects of air pollution on respiratory symptoms and the health status of participants with and without chronic respiratory diseases.Entities:

Odds ratios were adjusted by region of the survey, sex, age, body mass index (kg/m2), smoking status (current, ex- or never-smoker), COPD severity (GOLD stage 3 and 4, 2, 1 or 0), physician-diagnosed asthma, interaction between COPD and asthma, time spent outdoors (h), ambient temperature (°C), and relative humidity (%).
