Abstract
Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is the major complication of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation and is the primary cause of early non-relapse mortality (NRM) after transplant. GVHD of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract fuels the systemic inflammatory reaction and consequently is the principal driver of mortality. Recently, the MAGIC algorithm probability (MAP) that is computed from two biomarkers of GI GVHD has been validated to accurately predict risk of NRM throughout the course of early acute GVHD. This review focuses on the biology, clinical evidence, and practical application of the biomarkers in the measurement of acute GVHD.Entities:
