Abstract
Technology can be used to support healthy ageing and to support those who are living with disabilities. With the ageing of populations globally there is increasing interest in the role that technology can potentially play in supporting older persons. This paper analyses the role of technology in supporting everyday living, social engagement, and mobility by older persons, including those living with dementia. It argues for a human rights-based approach to assessing the role that technology can potentially play, arguing for a consideration of: decision-making in relation to use of technology; whether the technology protects privacy, dignity and liberty; whether it fosters mobility and social engagement; and whether it is accessible to all who need it on an equitable basis.Entities:
