Covert self-mutilation of oral tissues and skin by mechanical and chemical means.

A P Barrett1, D J Buckley.

Abstract

A case is presented in which a patient performed persistent covert acts of self-mutilation through mechanical and chemical means. The lesions first involved the oral mucosa and then the skin and were misinterpreted as erythema multiforme and pyoderma gangrenosum, respectively.
