Abstract
A case of osseous hyperplasia under the pontics of fixed partial dentures in right and left mandibular first molar regions is presented. Radiographs showed hemispherical radio-opacities on the alveolar ridges. Histologic examination revealed the lesions were composed of a dense mass of mature bone with well-developed lamellae and haversian systems, viable osteocytes in lacunae and a few marrow spaces filled with loose fibrous connective tissue. The review of the literature showed osseous hyperplasia under the pontic of a fixed partial denture has been seen only in the mandibular molar or premolar regions, but no conclusion about its etiology was made.Entities:
