ICU, intensive care unit; PS, propensity score; ASD, absolute value of standardized mean difference; BMI, body mass index; APACHE, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation.
Data are presented as number (percentage) or mean (standard deviation) unless otherwise indicated. Patients in the medical aid program (MAP) were those classified to have low income, and most of their hospital charges were paid by the government. Meanwhile, for patients in the National Health Insurance program (NHIP), approximately two-thirds of their hospital charges were covered by the government.
