Abstract
The interplay between intestinal epithelial barrier function, the intestinal microbiota, and cytokine signaling in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease is not completely understood. In this issue of Immunity, Eftychi et al. examined the cell types and cytokines that drive colitis in mice with an intestinal epithelial barrier defect and uncovered a surprising role for IL-12 in initiation of disease.Entities:
