Abstract
BACKGROUND: The global shortage of surgeons disproportionately impacts low- and middle-income countries. To mitigate this, Zambia introduced a 'task-shifting' solution and started to train non-physician clinicians (NPCs) called medical licentiates (ML) to perform surgery.
