Stingray envenomation in a returning traveller: a complicated disease course.

Kathryn Haigh1, Philip Delbridge2, Krishna Meda3, Rajasekhar Chilamkurthi3.

Abstract

We report the case of a returning traveller, a woman in her early 20s, who presents with chronic inflammation and infection of her left foot following a stingray strike. Surgery was performed to remove foreign material a remarkable 9 months after the initial injury. The case highlights the importance of the initial assessment and early management of stingray attacks and illustrates the potential need for exploration and debridement of problematic stingray wounds. © BMJ Publishing Group Limited 2019.
