Figure 1Hypothetical views for progression of heart failure in diabetes. There are two types of heart failure. One is heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and the other is heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Long term‐duration of diabetes has a risk for HFpEF. This type of heart failure is generally accepted to be less responsive to any drug treatment. Sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have some hope to improve HFpEF in diabetes.
