Abstract
Substance Use Disorders (SUD) continue to be a significant public health concern. Exercise has been examined as an adjunctive approach to addiction treatment in an effort to improve mental health, physical health, and substance use outcomes. This review will present the existing evidence for the efficacy of exercise in the context of SUD treatment. In addition, we identify key factors, specific to this population, that may be contributing to treatment outcomes of exercise intervention studies. Lastly, we present a number of considerations for the development of more effective exercise interventions, in the future, with patients in SUD treatment.Entities:
