Abstract
A major challenge for leaders in academic dentistry is the recruitment and retention of talented individuals. Six aspects of this challenge are considered - spotting, recruiting, developing, managing and mentoring, retention and 'letting go' talent. Skills in this important aspect of leadership can be learnt and acquired, thereby building capacity to build and retain effective academic teams.Keywords: Academic dentistry; Leadership; Recruitment; Retention; Talent
