Abstract
Burnout, a syndrome characterized by exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced effectiveness, does not spare pathologists, including cytopathologists, residents, and fellows. Burnout extracts a huge physician toll, resulting in decreased quality of care, poorer patient safety, increased physician turnover, and diminished patient satisfaction. In this review, we describe the drivers of burnout and suggest both individual and systemwide solutions that some centers have implemented to reverse the trend of increasing physician burnout.Entities:
