Abstract
BACKGROUND: Tanzania is a high HIV burden country in Sub-Saharan Africa with 1.5 million people infected. Unless monitored and responded to, low levels of retention in care may lead to poor HIV associated clinical outcomes and an increased likelihood of onward viral transmission. Using routine data, we assessed changes in retention in care and on treatment for HIV over time in Tanzanian facilities, using the national care and treatment programme (CTC) database.Entities:

*The longitudinal cohort was limited to those enrolled in 2008 to 2015. Where a clinic failed to submit data in at least one year between the first year of data submission and 2015, data from that clinic was excluded from the analysis cohort.
†The χ2 tests the probability that the difference in proportions between those excluded and included in the cohort might have occurred by chance.

†These percentages were not included in the table as some of the cohort have not had the opportunity to accrue sufficient follow-up time prior to the censoring date of 31 September 2017.
